Description
The role of the preceptor is crucial for developing our future nursing workforce. Being a preceptor is a rewarding experience and is an excellent way to develop your own professional development. We encourage you to take this next step in your career!
The interactive two-day workshop covers:
• Learning styles
• Teaching a skill – this requires a short homework task to be completed
• Constructive communication and feedback
• Managing conflict situations
• Assessing and documenting performance
• Implicit bias
• Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP)
The workshop incorporates a variety of teaching methods inclusive of group work, role play and activities to develop your knowledge and confidence to support students, new graduates, and Internationally Qualified Nurses (IQN). The IQN Registration Process (effective from July 1, 2024) will be explained.
Staff from Otago Polytechnic and University of Otago will provide information on their courses and the expectations for Diploma of Enrolled Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Nursing and Competence Assessment Programme (CAP) candidates.
Following completion of this workshop an update is available on HealthLearn: course SRLD002. This is to be completed every 3 years.
