Course Overview and Learning Outcomes:

To improve the skills and knowledge required for effective assessment and management of the unstable or deteriorating patient in the Primary Care/Community setting.

• Review physiology of system failure and cellular shock
• Common conditions that contribute to patient deterioration
• Review signs and symptoms of the deteriorating patient
• Systematic management of the unstable patient
• Use of early warning scores and local systems to guide response
• Communication and teamwork strategies
• Simulated patient cases
