This workshop is intended for nurses who currently work with patients/residents/clients with lower leg wounds that require specialised compression therapy.

Description
- Overview of best practice venous leg ulcer guidelines and atypical presentations.
- Describe risk factors, signs, and symptoms of arterial and venous leg ulcers.
- Discuss the principles of measuring the ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) in the assessment of arterial disease.
- Discuss the principles and safety of applying compression in the prevention and treatment of venous leg ulcers.
- Skin care and the importance of compression hosiery post healing to reduce ulcer recurrence.
- Provide education for patients receiving compression therapy – bandages and garments.
- District Nurses demonstrate competence in the application of Coban and Short Stretch compression.

Prior to attendance completion of the Compression Therapy HeathLearn package (must be completed every 3-years)
External DHB attendee’s competency must be done in consultation with their organisation.
